Learning from Losses
This week, I am learning to get over myself- try not to take everything so seriously. I have an amazing drive to learn new things and excel. To work and work and work until I achieve what I’m attempting. This can be a very good thing and can serve me well – it gives me persistence. But the further along I go, the more I am learning just to be- to relax in what I can offer- to express what I have.
Recently, I didn’t get into a particular show that I was so hopeful about. I had saved and submitted two pieces that I felt were the best I have done recently. In the past, this would have completely stalled me for a month or two. What I have learned is that there are so many amazing artists and I am privileged to be in the segment of humans that gets to paint. There were over 400 submissions for 80 spots. One of my pieces made it to the final selection round- yay!! Progress. I went to see the exhibit, to appreciate the work, to learn. The paintings were amazing. I could celebrate with the artists this joyful showing of what we know is a lifetime pursuit. So- I can’t wait to learn more and more and more.
This week I am focusing, really focusing, on values. The piece above is on the easel this weekend. let’s see where it winds up!
